Alia's First Haircut

Alia had her first little haircut yesterday. It didn't require more than a few snips, but it was necessary. She had a mullet/tail kind of thing going on with a few chunks of hair that were much longer than the rest. We decided to take her in and do it officially.

We sat her up in the airplane, because she LOVES airplanes and that seemed to be okay.

Then they put the little cape on her and she got a little suspicious.

Once the wetting of the hair began so did the giant crocodile tears. We gave her Lovey to hold on to, but even he couldn't help. At one point she looked right at Jason and said (and signed) "Dad" "up". I thought he was going to melt.

In the end, we sang Itsy Bitsy Spider and blew bubbles and that seemed to make things a little better. I'm so glad she's a girl and we won't need to be doing haircuts all that often! It really does look much better though :-)

"Mommy"

I have to admit, I just about melted when Alia started saying "mommy" ... not mom or mama, but mommy! Here's a little clip of her showing off her new word and just walking around the house with Lovey being her adorable, curious little self.

Update

Alia is almost 14 months old now. She loves walking and is getting VERY good at it. She only crawls if she gets tired or is on a mission to get someplace as quickly as possible. It's still the fastest way to get someplace. She is quite the talker too (big surprise, huh?) ! I tried to make a list and I think she has about 24 words now. Some of them sound very similar or are best distinguished by their varying hand gestures, but 24 words that she uses consistently and Mommy and Daddy understand. It looks like we might be making the transition to one nap, which I am both very happy and sad about at the same time. I know it will make scheduling activities and running errands much easier, but it sure was nice having two breaks during the day :-)

At Alia's last check up (12 months) she was 32 inches tall and I am pretty certain that she has grown since then. One of my favorite pairs of her little jeans looked like capri pants when we put them on her this morning. We attempted to do a weigh in on the scale today and my best guess is that she is about 25-26 pounds. She is a growing girl with a healthy appetite to support it. Alia will eat just about anything, but prefers whatever Mommy and Daddy have on their plate. She'll say "more" and point to our food even if she is eating the same thing. Silly kid!

Alia's current favorite activities are climbing up slides and then sliding down on her belly, reading books, playing in her playhouse, climbing in the window sill in the front room and looking outside, talking on her phone and saying hi to strangers in the grocery store. She is also currently obsessed with Elmo ("Mo").

Playhouse

Alia got a playhouse for Christmas from her Grandpa Snyder that Mommy and Daddy just got around to assembling. We decided to put it together and put it in the playroom now and then move it outside when the weather is nice. Alia loves it! As you can see from the pictures and video below, she got right in and helped Mommy and Daddy put it together. She spends lots of time inside making important phone calls (she loves the little phone that came with it) and baking (she took her wooden spoon and bowl inside). The doorbell is also a very big hit!

Making Forts with Daddy

In case you didn't already know, I have the best husband ever! One morning (of several) he got up with Alia and let me sleep in for a while. When I came downstairs, I found them laughing and playing and building forts together. It doesn't get much cuter than that!

Notice Alia's cute little belly hanging out over her pajamas :-)
