Playing Outside

A few pictures from this weekend ... two different trips to two different parks :-)

Bike Ride

This past weekend we enjoyed summer like weather and temperatures. It was gorgeous but also a horrible tease, as the weather went right back to "normal" on Tuesday. We did take advantage of it while we could though. We did a lot of playing outside and managed to take Max on his maiden voyage in the bike trailer. Going for bike rides has been one of Alia's favorite activities the past two summers.  We were hoping that Max was going to enjoy it as much as she did and I think it's safe to say that it was a big hit!

Random Afternoon Video

Enjoy this little video of just an average afternoon here at the Douglas house. I'm trying to remember to take more video like this so I don't forget what this was like. I am just loving the ages and stages that we are at right now. They are so much fun!

Happy Birthday To Me!

I had an absolutely wonderful birthday. Well, my actual birthday was business as usual ... Alia to school, Max to Gymboree, teaching at the Rec Center. But, the following day was PERFECT. The kids went to Jamie's house, Jason surprised me with an amazing spa day and he spent the entire day cooking an outstanding dinner. I also got a new flat iron (sounds boring, but I wanted one so bad) and Jason got us tickets to see the new Cirque show and set up a babysitter and everything - May 5th! I was totally spoiled rotten. Hands down, best birthday ever!

First course - crab cakes

Main course - steak and Brussels sprouts, with a yummy cheese sauce

Dessert - chocolate bread pudding w/ caramel sauce

Easter 2012

Here are some pictures from our very busy, but very fun Easter weekend:

Alia and I colored Easter eggs one afternoon this week while Max was napping. It was our special big kid project and she loved it!

The finished product...

Easter art project ... We painted egg cartons and turned them into flowers

Max painted a beard on his face .... unfortunately, I washed it off before this picture was taken.

My beautiful big girl on Easter morning. She loved her Easter dress!

Babysitter Breanna painted Alia's fingers and toes the night before.
She was very excited about the sparkles!

Two cutest kids EVER!

A very rare photo of me and both kids and we are all looking at the camera with our eyes open!

The Easter Bunny brought bubbles, sidewalk chalk and nice weather! After church, we found all of our eggs and baskets and then changed into play clothes and went outside for a while.

Papaw and Mimi were in town for the weekend. This was the best we could do for a group shot. Alia was apparently not in the mood to smile.

Max - 18 Months

Max just had his 18 month check up this morning. We were just a little late because of our vacation. Max is healthy and happy and growing just as he should be. He is just about a 1/2 pound lighter and a 1/2 inch shorter than Alia was at this age.

26 pounds, 14.5 ounces, 34.5 inches

If you haven't seen Max or been around him recently, let me just tell you that he is a riot! He goes 100 miles and hour all the time. He knows exactly what he wants and when we wants it and doesn't give up (I'm sure I'm going to admire this quality in him when he's older :-). He's very physical and very active. He loves climbing, running, trying to jump and generally doing anything that the "big kids" are doing. He's also very sweet and caring. He gives great hugs and kisses! He loves playing with blocks, balls, cars, trucks and doing whatever Alia is doing like having tea parties, playing dress up and taking care of baby dolls. He absolutely loves his big sister and really misses her when she is at school.

He's really working hard on his language skills right now. He has lots of "words" that only Mommy and Daddy can understand and a handful of words that can be identified by the general public like no, more, hi, bye, up, yeah, night-night, momma, dad and probably some others that I am forgetting. He points to everything right now and wants to know the name of it. His interest in language and his effort to talk have both really increased in just the last few weeks.

Max still sleeps with his Lovey and I have a feeling that Lovey might be with us forever. He is Max's closest friend :-) It is amazing how much his sleep has changed since he was a little dude. He is just about the easiest kid to put to bed now ... just get him cozy, make sure his tummy is full and Lovey is in hand and that's about all it takes. He sleeps all night long and takes one nap in the middle of the day.

He's still a picky little eater, although that has gotten a little better too. I still have yet to get him to eat anything green! His favorite foods are bananas, berries, pasta, bread, cheese and MILK! I can't wait to take him berry picking this summer. He is going to love it!

Florida - Sunset

On our last evening we went out to dinner, got ice cream and then let the little kids (Alia and Max) stay up to watch the sunset. We got some great pictures on the balcony while we were waiting.

CHEESE!

Alia was really running out of steam and needed a little cuddle time with Daddy.

It was a little windy ...

Best picture EVER!

More Florida Fun

Hmmm, maybe I should have issued some sort of warning ... I took a lot of pictures in Florida :-)

There was an outstanding ice cream shop walking distance from the condo ... We went there 3 times!

The 3 Musketeers!

I love this picture! Alia and Wyatt chillin' out and watching a little Thomas while Max hams it up for the camera.

I'm not sure who is happier in this picture - Grandpa holding Max OR Max sitting on Grandpa's lap while holding Lovey and his milk!

Grandpa brought back donuts for the kids after his morning walk one day ...

Max's was chocolate! Can you tell?

Mark, Kelly, Blake, Max, Wyatt, Phil, Alia, Me, Jason and Max

Jason's Uncle Phil lives close to where we were and came by for a visit one afternoon. This is the closest thing to a group shot we could get. Blake's girlfriend Kelli took the picture for us :-)

Florida - Beach Fun

We eventually developed quite the routine ... wake up, eat breakfast, watch cartoons, play at the beach, play at the pool, eat lunch and nap. Pretty fabulous! The kids loved playing in the sand! Max wasn't as sure about the ocean and the waves but Alia loved it! She jumped over them, sat down in them and splashed like crazy! She also really enjoyed collecting shells.

I made an effort to get in a few of the pictures so that there was some evidence that I was on vacation too. I get in the habit of being the one to pick up the camera.

My gorgeous little beach beauty :-)

Florida - Pool Time

We just got back from a great family vacation in Florida last week. My father-in-law gets a condo there every March and we stayed with him for a week. Two of Jason's brothers were there at the same time so we had a great vacation and some good family time too!

The number one favorite activity was swimming/playing in the pool. We went there every day!

Daddy helping Alia test out her new floatie. We were only able to talk her into leaving the stairs if someone was holding on to her .... even with the tube or floaties.

Little Max, Grandpa (Max the Elder), Jason and Alia

It was often very windy, so when the kids got out of the pool, the liked to be all bundled up until their warmed up and dried off.
