Summer Fun

We started off the day with some pj time. Mommy and Daddy had our usual Starbucks breakfast and attempted to read the paper while the kids played in the playroom. It was a slow start due to the fact that Max was awake from about 10:30pm-2:00am because of some teething issues.

Max got to open up his very first birthday present ... his big boy chair from Grammy. Now he and Alia each have their own.

After Max's very short first nap we went to the farmer's market and then came home and played outside. It was a beautiful day!

Alia insisted on wearing her white patent leather dress shoes from Easter with Max's Diego sunglasses ... interesting!

We did a little sidewalk chalk.

Then we got on our bathing suits and some more sunscreen and played in our little pool.

Max decided to give the water a taste test.

Big sister and little brother did a pretty good job of playing together.

Max was one tired little boy after all that playing, but unfortunately still didn't take a very good afternoon nap ... darn teeth!

Mommy did a practice batch of some cake pops that will be appearing at Max's birthday party in a few weeks (not this color) and Alia was my official taste tester ... They were a big hit!

Children's Museum

Today we went to the Children's Museum and met up with our good friends Jamie, Carson and Landon. We did some playing and then had lunch. We haven't been to the museum in a long time because it has been a little tricky working around naps and such. Max is now old enough to REALLY enjoy the "Baby Garden" area. He had a blast and was less than pleased when we had to leave it. He also really enjoyed the Dig Pit!

They were playing peek-a-boo and cracking up. It was adorable!

The Many Moods of Alia

Here's a quick little Alia update. She is very TWO these days! On Monday we spent 3.5 hours doing a 2 minute time out. Yes, you read that correctly! All she had to do was sit (and in the pack n play ... she couldn't get up and walk around or anything) and she found every position that she could possibly get into besides sitting. After 3.5 hours, I think her hungry belly finally motivated her to get it over with and sit for 2 minutes. Using a timer helped too! Since then we have had several time outs and they have all been 2 minutes. Our little "training session" on Monday paid off.

As I mentioned in another post, Alia is going to be taking a dance class this fall. She is very excited about it and is very into dancing around in the play room. She has the most adorable little smile that appears on her face when she's dancing. It's absolutely precious! I can't wait to see how her first class goes. Classes begin on September 12 :-)

Alia is still our shy little girl, but she is doing a much better job at interacting with others. She's getting better at playing with other kids and does especially well when she's one on one with other children. One of the funniest things that she's started doing is saying hi to people that pass us when we are out. I think she picked up on us doing it when we are out for walks in our neighborhood, but she's started doing it everywhere and it just cracks me up. She does it in the store, outside, at school and just about anywhere.

Alia has been enjoying school quite a bit this summer. Their summer program is quite fun and she's been able to do all kinds of neat things like basketball camp, soccer camp, sprinkler day, tae kwon do and more. I'm so glad that she is where she is and with such wonderful caring teachers. They are very understanding and take great care of her. I've noticed tons of progress with her social skills since she has been there. I will actually be kind of sad when she moves up to the next class when she's three. I want her to be with Mrs. Saechao forever!

Just tonight Jason and I decided that we think Alia has an imaginary friend ... and we think her friend's name is Gungagia (Gung-guh-gee-uh). We have absolutely no idea where she came up with that, but we've heard her quite a bit in her recent talkings to herself saying things like "Yeah, Gungagia, something smells stinky and I think its me!" That brings me to another point, we still cannot get that child to poop in the potty! She has no issues peeing in the potty and almost never has an accident, but she simply won't go #2. We are still wearing pull ups at nap time and bed time, so she just holds it until then and poops! The grown ups in this house are ready for this little phase to be over! We would like to be a one diaper pail household sometime in the very near future! But, as you can see from the 3.5 hour time out comment earlier, she's a girl that knows what she wants and doesn't give up easily!

Alia was being silly and showing me different moods ...

My Goofy Kids

Whenever I take Max's picture each month, Alia insists on being a part of it. The great part is that I have a picture of the two of them together every month since he was born! This one is especially adorable if you ask me!

Max is just starting to get interested in books. He really likes these little Fidgety Fish books.

Just a little taste of what morning play time looks like around here.

Alia "reading" her sticker book ... and then putting them all over her legs!

Max really "gets into" play time :-)

Max - 11 Months Old

Max is 11 months old today and I'm in the midst of planning his birthday party! His little personality emerges more each day! He's stubborn and loving and funny! Max current favorite past times are playing with blocks and trying to take things away from Alia that she's playing with. Max's newest trick is standing up all by himself in the middle of a room. He doesn't need to pull up on anything! He can even take 2-3 little steps before crashing! He gets very proud of himself each time he stands and makes sure to pause for applause.

He loves to give hugs and kisses and really grabs onto you. It's absolutely precious. He is understanding a lot of language but still not making any real words yet. He understands when you say things like "Give me a kiss/hug", "Ring the doorbell" (on the playhouse) "Show me your standing" and a whole lot more. He is one smart little cookie!

He is still a big fan of climbing and is constantly getting on top of things and crashing. He is recovering from two matching bruises on his head from recent crashes. He loves climbing the stairs on the way up to nap time. It's a pretty big deal and he can pretty much get to the top faster than Alia ... seriously!

Max's excellent sleep has continued and this family couldn't be happier. Today I was even blessed with a great nap time where both children slept for 2.5 hours at the same time ... HEAVEN! Max now has 3 teeth after tooth #3 gave him some serious trouble for several weeks. We were all relieved when it made an appearance!

My smiley, silly little guy

If you can resist that cuteness, you are a stronger person than I am :-)

I love this picture. It looks like he's trying to direct me behind the camera ...

Max loves being upside down. He's even done a few somersaults on accident.

Big boy! Standing up all by himself!

Alia's Dance Moves

Here is a little video of Alia showing off her dance moves! We are super excited to be starting dance classes at the dance studio next month. She is going to be taking a little pre-ballet/tap class on Monday afternoons. It's a 45 minute class for 3-4 year olds. I'm kind of cheating on the age a bit, but she'll be taking class at the studio I used to teach at and they said its totally fine. They use 3 as the guideline because of potty training. We went in this week and got all registered and looked around the studio and even snuck into an empty one to stomp our feet and stare at our self in the mirror :-)

Carson's Birthday Party

I forgot to post some pictures last month from Carson's birthday party (Alia's best friend). His mom Jamie (my best friend) makes party decorations (Pitter Patter Parties - http://pitterpatterparties.blogspot.com ) and they are so stinking cute! The party was at Magnolia Park in Hillsboro, which is actually where we are going to have Max's birthday party next month. The kids played on the play structures, in the water fountain and of course enjoyed yummy dinner and TREATS!

The birthday boy!

Alia thoroughly enjoying her cupcake ... it took her at least 20 minutes to eat it. She picked each little sprinkle off individually first and ate them, then nibbled the frosting and then finally ate the cupcake!

Look at how cute the kids table was ... oh my goodness! They all looked adorable in their little construction hats and vests!

One happy little girl!

Max liked celebrating with the big kids too!

Stay tuned at the end of this one to see Max pushing Alia while she sits in her baby doll stroller ... pretty funny!
