The Many Moods of Alia

Here's a quick little Alia update. She is very TWO these days! On Monday we spent 3.5 hours doing a 2 minute time out. Yes, you read that correctly! All she had to do was sit (and in the pack n play ... she couldn't get up and walk around or anything) and she found every position that she could possibly get into besides sitting. After 3.5 hours, I think her hungry belly finally motivated her to get it over with and sit for 2 minutes. Using a timer helped too! Since then we have had several time outs and they have all been 2 minutes. Our little "training session" on Monday paid off.

As I mentioned in another post, Alia is going to be taking a dance class this fall. She is very excited about it and is very into dancing around in the play room. She has the most adorable little smile that appears on her face when she's dancing. It's absolutely precious! I can't wait to see how her first class goes. Classes begin on September 12 :-)

Alia is still our shy little girl, but she is doing a much better job at interacting with others. She's getting better at playing with other kids and does especially well when she's one on one with other children. One of the funniest things that she's started doing is saying hi to people that pass us when we are out. I think she picked up on us doing it when we are out for walks in our neighborhood, but she's started doing it everywhere and it just cracks me up. She does it in the store, outside, at school and just about anywhere.

Alia has been enjoying school quite a bit this summer. Their summer program is quite fun and she's been able to do all kinds of neat things like basketball camp, soccer camp, sprinkler day, tae kwon do and more. I'm so glad that she is where she is and with such wonderful caring teachers. They are very understanding and take great care of her. I've noticed tons of progress with her social skills since she has been there. I will actually be kind of sad when she moves up to the next class when she's three. I want her to be with Mrs. Saechao forever!

Just tonight Jason and I decided that we think Alia has an imaginary friend ... and we think her friend's name is Gungagia (Gung-guh-gee-uh). We have absolutely no idea where she came up with that, but we've heard her quite a bit in her recent talkings to herself saying things like "Yeah, Gungagia, something smells stinky and I think its me!" That brings me to another point, we still cannot get that child to poop in the potty! She has no issues peeing in the potty and almost never has an accident, but she simply won't go #2. We are still wearing pull ups at nap time and bed time, so she just holds it until then and poops! The grown ups in this house are ready for this little phase to be over! We would like to be a one diaper pail household sometime in the very near future! But, as you can see from the 3.5 hour time out comment earlier, she's a girl that knows what she wants and doesn't give up easily!

Alia was being silly and showing me different moods ...
